Password Hacking is Increasing

Password cracking software is simple to use and has become widely accessible in recent years. There are even YouTube tutorials which show you how to complete these hacks and crack passwords.

61% of passwords used are either 8 or 9 characters long and usually only include lowercase letters and numbers. This would take a computer between 22 minutes to 19 hours to figure out.

This becomes even more worrisome as 65% of people reuse the same password across multiple websites.

Meaning that hackers can take over even more of your accounts. Fortunately, there are a number of ways that you can protect yourself from being hacked.

Size Matters When It Comes To Passwords

One way is to make sure that your passwords are 11 characters and over and include a mixture of numbers, symbols, and uppercase and lowercase letters. It is also vitally important to ensure that each password is unique to each website you use. If you use the same password across multiple websites, having one password cracked could lead to many of your accounts being stolen.

Password Management Systems

The best way to store passwords is to utilise a password management program such as BitWarden and LastPass. These rely on you using one incredibly secure password that is encrypted to protect a database of your login information.

These services also allow you to share these passwords across devices and with other accounts in a secure fashion that is difficult to be intercepted by hackers.
It is not difficult to crack passwords with today’s technology and as time goes on, it will become even easier.

The easiest way that you can protect yourself from losing control of your accounts is by making sure that you follow the steps above to avoid being hacked.
