Are you prepared and extra vigilant for the prospect of new scammer approaches affecting your life?

With the increase in security threats we are seeing these days, scammers are finding new ways to gain confidential information, but it’s not just through email anymore.

So what else should you be keeping an eye on when it comes to protecting your personal details?

When you give application permissions- even the fun face filter apps we all like to use with friends, animals or the kids, you are actually giving information that can be sold to other parties. It’s at this point you can also receive phone calls that are trying to record your voice to use with other providers that use your voice as a way to identify you.

It’s no surprise that scammers are constantly coming up with new ways to trick people into giving them money or personal information.

Social media platforms (think Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, etc) are quite often used to impersonate well-known individuals or organizations and ask people to send them money or personal information. For example, scammers may create fake social media accounts pretending to be a charity and asking for donations. Be sure to verify the identity of anyone asking for money or personal information on social media.

Be extremely wary of potential investment scams.

Be sure to do your own research and verify the legitimacy of any investment opportunity before handing over your money.

Tech support scams are another popular option for scammers. They will try to tell you there’s something wrong with your computer and ask for remote access to fix it.

Never allow anyone to remotely access your computer because once they get through they can access everything!

To protect yourself from scams, it’s important to be vigilant and to always verify the identity of anyone asking for money or personal information.

Be suspicious of unsolicited phone calls, emails, or text messages, even if they seem legitimate.

Do your own research and verify the legitimacy of any investment opportunity or charity before handing over your money.
