Now one of the most convenient ways to save your data to the cloud, we’ve created a handy guide on How to Use Google Drive.
Google Drive is undoubtedly one of the world’s leading cloud storage services. Allowing 15 GB of free storage spread across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos, it offers a safe and speedy way to share files with friends, family, co-workers, and across devices.
Thankfully, Google Drive is also extremely user-friendly and can be set up and used in mere minutes. Here is our step-by-step guide on how to use Google Drive, uploading images and content for both PC, Mac, and mobile phone.
For PC and Mac
- Firstly, you’ll need to create a Gmail account. This can be done here: https://accounts.google.com/SignUp
- After you’ve finished this, visit https://drive.google.com/
- At the top left, click “New”
- Then select “File Upload” or “Folder Upload.” If you’re uploading multiple photos or files, collect them in a single folder in advance and select “Folder Upload” to upload them all at once.
- Click the files or folder you want to upload and the process will begin automatically
For Mobile Phone (Android)
- For those with a smartphone running android OS, open the Google Drive app and tap “Add.” If you don’t have the Google Drive app, download it from your app store and log in
- Select “Upload”
- Locate the files you wish to upload and tap them. They will then be automatically uploaded to Google Drive
For Mobile Phone (iPhone)
- For those with an iPhone or iPad, download, open, and log in to the Google Drive app
- Tap “Add” and then “Upload”
- Locate the files you wish to upload and tap them. They will then be automatically uploaded to Google Drive
Keep in mind: Entire folders cannot be uploaded on smartphones, so if you have a lot of files or photos you wish to share, it’s best to locate a PC or Mac.
How to Share Your Photos and Files
Now that you’ve uploaded your stuff, you’ll likely need to share it with someone! Follow the steps below:
For PC and Mac
- Find your uploaded folder and open it
- Then, roughly in the top-middle of the screen, click on your folder’s name and then select “share”
- The easiest way to share the folder is with the “Get link” option. However, you’ll need to change access permissions from “restricted” to “anyone with the link” if it is not already set up like that.
- Click “copy link” and then paste the link into an email or messaging app and send it to the person who wishes to view it. You can also type in their specific email address, which will send them an email with the necessary information.
For Mobile Phone (Android)
- Tap “More” next to the folder’s name
- Select “Share”
- Enter the email address of the individual you wish to share it with, or tap “Link sharing off” and copy and paste the link into an email or messaging app
- You can also edit access permissions by tapping the down arrow
For Mobile Phone (iPhone)
- Tap “More” next to the folder’s name
- Select “Add people”
- Enter the email address of the individual you wish to share it with, or tap “Link sharing” and copy and paste the link into an email or messaging app
